Two Pound Box Dunstan Chestnut Seed Nuts
Dunstan chestnuts are the most widely planted chestnut trees in the United States today. Originally developed by Dr. Robert T. Dunstan in the 1950s, these trees are a hybrid of American chestnut (Castanea dentata) and Chinese chestnut (Castanea mollissima). The goal was to combine the American chestnut’s vigor and cold-hardiness with the Chinese chestnut’s natural resistance to chestnut blight. We use UPS rather than USPS to ensure quick delivery.
Dunstan chestnuts are open-pollinated, meaning they are grown from nuts produced by existing Dunstan trees and pollinated by other chestnuts in the vicinity. While they are not genetically identical like grafted trees, Dunstan seed nuts reliably produce offspring with desirable traits, including:
-
Resistance to chestnut blight
-
Large, sweet, easy-to-peel nuts
-
Strong adaptability to U.S. climates
-
High value for both wildlife and commercial production
They are a favorite among hunters and food plot managers due to their ability to produce mast for deer and other wildlife, typically bearing nuts in as little as 3–5 years under good conditions.
